A large corps
of volunteers
supports the museum by providing interpretive tour services, supporting
exhibition openings and acquisitions, and raising millions of dollars
in support of its exhibitions and public programs. Volunteers plan
and carry out activities of the Art, History and Natural Sciences
Guilds. Specially trained docents serve as museum educators. Others
serve the museum generally by staffing information desks, assisting
the museum's culinary staff with food preparation and service, or
working on the Women's Board's huge White Elephant Sale.
