A narrow passage is frequently encountered in cave exploration.  Using this squeeze box, our Cave Campers can experience simulated conditions of the narrow passageways of actual cave exploration.  Essentially, the campers will redefine their zone of comfortable passage, and become comfortable moving within their minimum clearance.  “You have to learn how to adjust your comfort zone,” says Gwen.
Cave conservation is very important, a point Sonya and Niche are trying to make.  You should never break off a stalactite, because stalactites only grow one inch per century. The old cavers’ motto is leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but pictures, and kill nothing but time.
To get to know caves better groups of two people studied each of the different types of caves.  In this picture Stella and Heather show us how wind and rain affect sandstone to make caves.
Sonya and Niche are demonstrating what it’s like to be in a zero degree environment.  They are sitting next to the freeze dryer where the animals and plants are prepared for future exhibits.
