The Entrance Zone
Here in the doorway to the cave, many animals come to rest after finding food on the outside. Nocturnal mammals and owls find a darker area to sleep during the day and may even nest here. There is some sunlight, so shade loving plants can grow -- like ferns, mosses and algae.
