Joe
Slusky:
Recent Polychrome Sculptures
Presented
by the Art Department
Colorful abstract
sculptures
suggestive of surrealistic mechanical toys are featured in the exhibition
Joseph Slusky: Sculpture Survey, 1978-1998, at the Oakland Museum
of California Sculpture Court at City Center, 1111 Broadway, Oakland.
The exhibition runs from Jan. 18 through May 15, 1999.
Slusky uses
steel, paint and automotive finishes to create brightly colored,
highly active abstract sculptures. His work employs strong geometric
forms and applied shapes and color to evoke movement in space. This
retrospective exhibition includes 18 sculptures completed during
the past 20 years.
Joseph Slusky
was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Los Angeles. He received
a Bachelor in Architecture and an M.A. in sculpture from U.C. Berkeley.
He has taught art throughout the Bay Area since 1980, and has been
a Visual Studies Lecturer in the Architecture Department at U.C.
Berkeley. His sculpture and drawings have been included in more
than 100 exhibitions in the Bay Area, and nationally, and is represented
in many public and private collections.
