Introduction
Welcome to the Youth Explorations Program 2000 Adventure!
The Youth Explorations Program is an opportunity for young explorers to do something they
love and learn about the great outdoors while having fun!
It's a great program with lots of
great people. We made these web pages to take you to some of the places we
visited and show you some of the things we learned.

Who are we?
We are 15 students between the ages 11 and 17 from Oakland
California who are part of a special program at the Oakland Museum of California.
We are all young science explorers that
love to go on adventures. We are from
Frick Middle School, Carter Middle School, Skyline High School, Merrit
College High School, Cesar Chavez Middle School, and Emery Middle School.

What sorts of things did we do?
Our field trips take us
to new places to see and learn about new things.
We observe nature and like to make sure that living things are living well.
Where did we go?
Between January and June, 2000, we went on six field trips
in Northern California. We went to the tidepools in Half Moon Bay
to look at little animals, hiked around Aņo Nuevo to see the elephant
seals, kayaked in Monterey Bay, went whale watching on a boat, cruised the San Francisco Bay,
and explored caves near Lake Shasta.
|
|
What did we learn?
We learned about different kinds of marine animals.
We learned about elephant seals, whales and other marine mammals.
We learned how to kayak. We also learned about San Francisco Bay.
We discovered things we never knew before about caves in California.
We learned alot!
What did we like best?

My favorite part of the program was going caving because we were crawling
through caves and holes and I saw that as a great adventure.

What I liked was tidepools because while we were there we had to watch the waves because
the tide might come in and we might get stuck.
