Mary
Lovelace O'Neal,
Set Them Wings on the Table
|
"The most
important element of my existence as an artist is to MAKE. The visual
manifestation is profound because I can continue to develop these
expressions whether they are visually located in theories about
modern movements or the unshakable wraps of the past. My work is
my way of freeing myself; and my way of maximizing that freedom."
-Mary Lovelace O'Neal
To celebrate
its partnership with Latham Square Associates, LLC, the Oakland
Museum of California Professional Services division is delighted
to present the lyrical work of Mary Lovelace O'Neal. Painting in
the Expressionist tradition for over thirty years, the artist enjoys
a career filled with singular accomplishments and international
renown.
Created with
inspired abandon, O'Neal's pulsating compositions, lush surfaces,
and exuberant color palette engage the viewer and initiate playful
dialogue. The paintings are assertive; they command attention. The
large scale and rhythmic patterns emphasize the paintings' surfaces,
yet suggest an expanse beyond the physical perimeters of the canvas,
reflecting the infinite capacities of the human spirit.
"The Oakland
Museum of California welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with
Latham Square Associates, LLC in presenting work from the studios
of some of Oakland's most creative artists," says Executive
Director Dennis Power. "We hope that through their work, you
will come to know Oakland as a city with both heart and art."
